Zoe the Zebra is a warm tale of a youth struggling to accept herself and her differences. When Zoe finally understands that relationships develop from what is inside of us instead of what is outside, a beautiful friendship begins to bloom. Larry the Lion has his own problems with self-confidence and rejection, and in a single act of heroism, finds a whole new family of friends. The book celebrates our unique qualities and characteristics and shows how, what makes us different, is also what makes us special. Delightful pictures by Robin Schneider bring the action and emotion to life as Zoe and Larry learn the true treasure of friendship and self confidence!

Emily Elephant Makes A New Friend is a wonderfully written children's book about a pair of unlikely playmates: one's large, one's small; one's furry and the other not at all. After the initial failed-attempt to become friends came the snide remarks typical of children pointing out each other's most extreme difference. As the story progressed, their resilience and diversity became the bond that strengthen their relationship into a genuine friendship.
I first read Emily Elephant Makes A New Friend to my grandson when he was in kindergarten. During the summer prior to him entering first grade, he practiced reading passages in the book. By the end of the summer, he and I decided that he should surprise his mother by reading the book to her on her birthday. To her surprise, and mine too, he read the book from beginning to end (41 pages).
I highly recommend Emily Elephant Makes A New Friend for children of all ages, especially for those who are just beginning or learning to read. The sequence of events and details of the story from the very beginning are syntactically and conscientiously parallel with events and details throughout the book to the end.
